Brucellosis Found in Deuel County Cattle Herds
CHAPPELL The cattle disease brucellosis has been found in 10 herds in Deuel County. County Agent Bob Wollman said that of 195 herds totaling 3,151 cattle, 43 were found infected. The 10 herds will be quarantined and retested after 30 days. infected cattle will be removed. Deuel County will be classified as a modified certified brucellosis area and its herds will undergo a multi year testing program.

Free Show at Fox Theatre Runs Holidays
Continuous free shows start this week at the Fox Theatre with Meadow Gold Dairy presenting a public free show Thursday from 10 a.m. Doors open at 9:30. Fire damages 29 bales of cotton in A P R R boxcar
A Union Pacific R71 boxcar fire in Sidney damaged 29 bales of cotton. Firemen fought the blaze before 5 am on Tuesday. the car was moved to a siding and the bales dumped. The boxcar also sustained damage and the railroad disposed of or loaded the bales by Wednesday morning. A separate call to 1100 22nd Ave reported a furnace issue at 3:15 pm Thursday with no damage.

The 5,080th telephone in Sidney was installed as part of nearly 50 years of service. Northwestern Bell in Sidney handles over 21,939 local calls daily and about 2,500 long distance calls daily across Potter, Kimball, Dix, Bushnell, Lodgepole, Gurley, Dalton and Chappell. The office employs nearly 100 people with operators, plant, commercial, and construction staff plus three Western Electric workers.
