After a week of near deserted village life, Sunday night brought relief with the reopening of the movie theater and the anticipated return of business and schools. Citizens expect a quick restoration of normal activity as fuel economy prompts ease and crowds fill downtown streets once more.
Banking hours in Sidney shift to 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from now until April to conserve fuel and light. After April 1, hours will revert to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., requiring customers to plan accordingly. Participating banks include The American Bank, The First National Bank, The Nebraska State Bank, and The Liberty State Bank. A cake giveaway at Gandy Kitchen is set for Saturday at 7 p.m., replacing the former Christmas Eve timing. Osborn Battery Station offers battery rental during repairs.
The Sidney businessmen subscribed to cover a $222 deficit from bringing 250 harvest hands from Montana to assist the county's wheat crop last year. American Bank advanced $6,865,000 for transportation, with County Agent Gould assisting in selecting workers who contributed to the crop's care. Four Sidney banks each added $45.50 to cover the deficit at a Clearing House meeting, a notable public service to the county's progress.
Rev Louis Holmes has been hired by the Christaan church congregation for 1920. He is based in Bonner Springs Kansas and will begin work in Sidney on Sunday January 4. Holmes comes highly recommended as an able minister and the congregation aims for a banner year under his leadership.
Sidney Public Schools announce Christmas exercises this afternoon before closing for the Christmas New Year vacation. Schools end today and resume January 5 after a two week break. Wishing Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to pupils and teachers as the 1919 20 term continues.

Harvey Hecker twenty seven employed at Union Pacific round house was struck by west bound Overland Limited in yards near coal chutes. Hecker died in Cheyenne hospital next day after the accident. Funeral held at M E Church with Rev Porter Bennett officiating. Interment at Dunkard cemetery south of Sidney. survived by parents Mr and Mrs Joseph Hecker four brothers and five sisters.

James Forbes of Keurner and Howard Griffith local agent for Square Turn Tractor of Norfolk Nebraska visit Sidney this week. They plan a Saturday demonstration under the Farmers Co operative Association of Sidney to showcase the Nebraska built tractor and discuss a Sidney agency with Griffith as representative.
The American Legion of Cheyenne county will host a New Year’s Dance at the Tobin Opera House to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new. The Sidney Orchestra will perform, and butter milk will be served as the drink of the occasion. Attendees should come prepared and leave haversacks at home to keep the event orderly.
Sidney churches plan services for the Christmas season inviting broad participation. The Frances Willard Union met at Mrs. Hornaday's home for an Americanization program with remarks by J J McIntosh and a League of Nations discussion praised by attendees. A solo by Mr. Rice and a reading by Mrs. Stansbury accompanied lunch and a silver jubilee fund contribution. A newborn was born to Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Schroeder December 12.

The Methodist Episcopal Church invites all to Sunday School at 10 a.m. on Christmas morning and a sermon by the pastor at 11 a.m. The Epworth League meets at 6:30 p.m., and the evening service at 7:30 p.m. will feature No Room at the Inn. Christmas Eve exercises are being prepared by the church.
