Sidney Public Utilities board urges residents to pull hot water heater switches between 4 30 and 6 30 pm to cut peak load. Bake and cook off peak, limit lighting, delay ironing and cleaning. Businesses are asked to shift operations to off peak hours to ease daily peak period from 4 30 pm for two to three hours.
Clarence Hoper resigns as Alliance city manager effective in 30 days to join the U S Bureau of Reclamation in Region 7 based in Denver His departure draws sorrow from Mayor Jones and the council noting his 11 years of diligent service and city growth.
The Sidney high school chorus soloists and groups under Miss Martha Crellin present the cantata The Music of Christmas by Ira B. Wilson on December 19 at 8:00 PM in the high school auditorium. The band will open with The Crusader's Overture and carols. The Rev. Milton W. Good rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church Pittsburg Kan visits Sidney to discuss leading the Christ Church parish which includes Kimball under Nebraska diocese. A 5 30 dinner at Hazel's Cafe precedes a service at Christ Church with Rev Good officiating. He will lunch with Kimball parish members Wednesday noon. Disastrous floods sweep the northwest leaving nearly a thousand families homeless in Kent Washington area last week. Mrs E L Carter says daughter Mrs Harold Shay formerly Hester Null noted the Shays have housed about seventy five stricken families at the Kent Episcopal Church and provided breakfast. Red Cross reports Kent area as hardest hit with nearly four hundred families evacuated on the first day.
Utility Manager Vern Livingston faced criticism after city lights were briefly burned to inspect bulbs. He explained the daytime test used off peak load costing about sixty four cents, far cheaper than night testing with overtime and peak-load complications.
Nebraska clerks of district courts in Omaha call for a study of locating a new state mental hospital in western Nebraska. They seek funds to expand care, admit seniles as mental hospital patients, and permit voluntary admissions. Also urged: full time county assessors, higher deputy pay, reassessment rules on lands, and higher pay for county commissioners and supervisors.
Tickets for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the city auditorium Wednesday night at 8:30 are on sale at Greenlees The Sidney Drug Co and the Chamber of Commerce office. A New York cast of singing and dancing stars headlines this Christmas season show sponsored by the Chamber to boost Sidney as a western Nebraska theater hub. Main center tickets are 2.40 with 1.80 for other seats. Orders have come from Chappell Bridgeport Lodgepole Kimball Dalton Peetz Potter and other towns. Tickets also on sale at the box office Wednesday night.
A sharp north wind swept Sidney on Monday ending the region's warm spell. The windy day dampened outdoor chores and disrupted the weekly wash as forecasters indicated no severe weather for the week ahead.
Members of the Cheyenne County Farmers Union approved a resolution seeking immediate and adequate funds for rural electrification to entice residents back to farm life. They opposed inter-state trade barriers and removal of entry ports and wheel taxes. The meeting, with about 100 attendees, also endorsed patent law revisions and fair royalties to curb monopolies. New officers were elected including Henry Gen as president and John Meyer as vice president.
Lodgepole increases its electrical charges by ten percent effective January 1. The $.75 minimum rises to $0.93 and the $3.25 minimum goes to $3.58. Higher diesel fuel and labor costs are cited as the main reasons for the hike. Citizens were advised.
Cheyenne County school children under twelve will be guests of honor at a Wednesday matinee of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the city auditorium. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the show and will hand out free treats. only teachers and students are admitted. Demand is high, with 12 to 15 hundred expected, and the show features a large cast, an orchestra, and elaborate sets under George Elias’s direction.
The C. A. Story Agency marks its tenth anniversary opening in 1936 with nine full time associates and plans for a new office building on Tenth Avenue. Led by president C. A. Story, the firm grew from a modest start into Western Nebraska’s large insurance firm, writing over two million dollars of new life insurance last year among 175 Nebraska companies, with The Guarantee Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Omaha a key partner.
The Dalton Lions Club will host a Christmas party for area children on December 23 at the school house. Lions members and their wives will entertain the children with a program and treats, as reported by the Dalton Delegate.

The American Legion basketball team will play two games here this week. On Wednesday they meet Chappell at the junior high auditorium and on Friday they face Sterling at the city auditorium. Both games start at eight. The starting lineup will be chosen from Bowman W Hengl Wilson Livanis and McKay.
The manslaughter trial of Sam Cassaro did not start in district court yesterday as Cassaro remained too ill to travel. District Judge I J Nisley is expected back in Sidney Wednesday morning to chart the balance of court activities.
The police report states Victor Henderson was arrested for intoxicated driving and appeared before Judge Robert A. Barlow, receiving a $25 fine plus costs. Henderson’s license was revoked for one year. He was taken into custody Thursday night by city police under Police Chief Harvey.
The Telegraph will publish its annual Christmas greeting edition on Monday December 23 and mail it that evening. Solicitation for greeting ads has begun and may be the largest edition yet. Merchants and individuals are urged to call to reserve space, as personal calls cannot reach everyone.
Funeral services for Lt Max McMillan 24 killed in a Jeep accident on Okinawa will be held at the Catholic Church Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Msgr Anton Link will conduct the service with burial in the family Catholic cemetery. Lt McMillan enlisted in 1940 and served as chief intelligence officer and paymaster on Ryukyu Island. Survivors include his wife Marguerite and parents Clyde and Mrs Marguerite McMillan.
Gov. Dwight Griswold issued a proclamation declaring full force to the anti closed shop amendment approved by Nebraska voters on November 5. It reports 212,443 for and 142,702 against, meeting the required majority while confirming the vote share. The ASST. ATTY. GEN. said penalties won’t start until the legislature enacts enforcement measures.
The Gering Courier reports federal engineers completed the survey of the 115000 volt line linking five hydro plants and spanning Wyoming, eastern Colorado, and western Nebraska. Construction could start January with operation hoped by mid 1947, connecting Seminoe, Casper Alcora, Shoshone, Pilot Butte, and Big Thompson plants and creating a 1500 mile transmission network.
Two men were injured when their car overturned on highway 113 a mile south of the Nebraska state line at noon Thursday. Earl Williams age 22 of Rushville suffered a fractured right leg and Charles Gerber age 55 of Pineridge South Dakota incurred severe scalp lacerations. Passenger Patty Levitt age 3 of Denver was uninjured. Gerber and the child were taken to Roche hospital in Sidney by a passing motorist, Williams to hospital by ambulance.
