Sidney Sheriff in Shootout Over Brother in Law
Sidney Sheriff shot and wounded his sister in law Mrs Richard Keefe when she tried to drive him away with a single tree. The sheriff said Suler 42 a salesman grabbed his baby and led to the second floor bedroom. He threatened to kill himself and the child if officers reached him. Schulz and deputy Joe Perano wearing teargas masks stormed the room as tear gas failed. Schulz rushed in and grabbed the child under a hail of bullets from a .22 pistol. Perano returned fire blind in the gas haze. Community contributions show Schulz and deputies Brum Laugh and Morris active in youth programs like the Boy Scouts, with locals praising their stability and efficiency in law enforcement.

Two Bayard Men Arraigned in Gurley Burglary Case
John Enriquez and Stephen Gonzales both of Bayard were brought to Sidney to face burglary charges for a December 2 theft at the Lessig Skelly service station in Gurley. They confess to stealing four tires a shotgun and other items while Roy Sheldon of Bayard is jailed in Alliance on related charges. Enriquez says he slept in the car during the break in and the claim is supported by Sheldon and Gonzales. Both defendants were arraigned Wednesday.
