Two Ovid Men Fined After Rail Crossing Mishap

William Torrez 27 and Adam Jeon King 19, both of Ovid, paid fines in police court after attempting to cross Union Pacific tracks near 11th Ave between Grant and Hickory. Torrez suffered head injuries while King was shaken. car damage around 175 dollars. Both jailed pending fine payment.

Gear Grinders Safety Club formed for youth by Civitan group

Sidney Civitan Club sponsors a new Gear Grinders Safety Club to promote auto safety for youths. Thirteen high school students from Vorenzo St Patrick's Academy and Sidney High School attended an organizational session at Rails Cafe. Officers were named and planned activities include a car wash to raise funds for needy families at Christmas.

Barnhart Heart Victim Dies at 57 Rites Thursday

Benjamin J Barnhart 57 died of a heart attack at his farm home southeast of Sund Monday. Funeral services set for Thursday at 1 30 p m at the Craig Mortuary with the Rev Norman Schroeder of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial in South Sund Cemetery. He was born January 29 1902 in Emo Ontario Canada and moved to Cheyenne County in 1915. Survived by his wife Mary Pinix Stadlar eight children and one sister Flo Gallant of Wellington BC. Pallbearers named Oscar Copter Glenn Dickinson Gail Jarred Martin Beckmann Herbert Statur and Glenn Koehes.

Egging Well May Open New Oil Field In County

Sterling Colorado oil man Rex Monahan shows a promising No 1 Mary Egging well near Gurley. Drill stem tests in the D sand yield 930 feet of oil and 510 feet of oil and mud cut water, with earlier tests showing substantial oil and water. If production meets expectations, offset drilling may follow and a new Gurley field could emerge. The Gurley area previously hosted the Mary Egging and Sell No 1 wells, with Ohio and other operators contributing to development. Nationwide, Western states report 4 302 wells completed in January, led by Northern New Mexico with high success in oil and gas.

United Fund chairman Gerald Matzke reports $13,289.79 raised, $1,710.21 short of the $15,000 target but $1,490 above last year. Last year totaled $11,800. Donations may be mailed to Matzke, with about 88.6 percent of the 1959 goal reached.

DIX services for Guy Albert Barrett 68 will be Thursday at 2 pm at the Presbyterian Church with Rev S G Williams of Dix officiating. Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery. Barrett born June 4, 1891 near Hull in Banner County lived in Banner and Kimball counties, worked on ranches and as a barber, married Stella Viuphn in 1919, moved to Dix in 1920, served as custodian of Dix Elementary School, member of Union Presbyterian Church, died after collapsing at work Monday evening.

Depot Curtails Operations Over Christmas Vacation

Sidney firemen responded to a Thursday evening alarm at 730 pm for a car fire at 1230 Elm. The blaze was confined to the engine and blamed on defective wiring. damage estimated at 75 dollars.

Youth 15 Hurt After Fall From Moving Car

A 15 year old Sidney youth, Mike Maher, sustained head injuries when he fell from a moving car around 9 55 p m. He was listed in good condition at Sidney Memorial Hospital. Police said details were incomplete but the youth apparently fell off or was thrown from the back as the car started to move.
