Local Teachers To Ballot On Security Plan In Sidney

Sidney Nebraska teachers vote Friday on joining federal social security. About 80 teachers in the state retirement plan are expected to cast ballots. The referendum in Nebraska schools is viewed as likely to pass by a large majority and would be retroactive to January 1, 1955, with standard employee employer contribution sharing.

Funeral rites for Mrs Harriet Brown at Gehrig & Son

Funeral services for 75 year old Mrs Harriet Brown will be held Friday at 2 P M at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with the Rev H Ralph Bixel presiding. Burial follows in Greenwood Cemetery in the family plot. Mrs Brown, longtime Sidney resident, died Saturday in a San Francisco hospital after surgery two weeks earlier.

Sidney Post Office braces for a Christmas mail rush as acting Postmaster Weldon Stewart expects peak late this week or early next. Extra help is ready, but no extra hours or Sunday opening. late mail may miss home delivery before December 25. Last year the unit handled 325021 pieces from Dec 1 to Christmas Day and may break that total this year.

Verne Pangborn of the State Health Department praised Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital calling it splendid and one of the finest he has seen during a visit to review construction and accounting. He noted an expected final federal audit and possible aid installment around March pending audit results. The hospital owes about 75000 dollars, with about half expected from the final federal installment.

Sidney firemen used a dry powder extinguisher at 7 45 a m to extinguish a basement oven grease fire at Waddell's Cafe. There was little damage said Fire Chief Harvey Vizina. The call was a silent one.
