Alliance Hosts Western Nebraska Farm Convention
The third annual meeting of western Nebraska organized agriculture opened in Alliance and runs through Friday. Sponsored by farm and home groups and the Nebraska state board of agriculture, the event features the Nebraska Potato Improvement Association show and the western Nebraska corn and small seed show with product displays at the Alliance courthouse. Prizes will be offered, with speakers including former Governor S R McKelvie and others from universities and farm circles. Cullen Wright of Scottsbluff served as toastmaster at the annual feed.

Americanization class ends first semester
Monday evening marked the close of the first semester of the Americanization class with 20 pupils. Sponsored by the American Legion auxiliary and led by Mrs. W. J. Shoemaker, assisted by several teachers, students received pocket Spanish-English dictionaries and sang "America" during a social gathering at Mrs. Shoemaker's home.

Nine carloads of dressed turkeys were shipped to eastern markets under the North Platte Valley Co operative Poultry Marketing association. 18 000 birds yielded about 60 000 dollars with prior shipments bringing total returns near 100 000 dollars. Four more carloads will go in February to the American Stores company in Philadelphia. One car from Broadwater and Sidney marked a first time selling dressed turkeys on f o b terms supervised by the association. Sidney car contained about 2 000 birds. County Agent L D Willey helped prepare the shipment.

Damaged Saddle Horse Dies After Fall Into Old Well
A valued saddle horse owned by Joe Morfeld two miles west of town fell into an abandoned well in the city. Rescued after hours of effort with a wrecking derrick, the four year old horse suffered a back injury and could not recover. Morfeld, who valued the animal for riding and herding, had the horse humanely killed after it was saved. The accident occurred near the old hitching rail by the electric power plant. the horse was stuck with only its head above ground until rescue.
