Vast Missile Site for Unusual Kimball High School
Kimball County High School in Kimball Nebraska unveils a multi million dollar vocational education facility built around a decommissioned Atlas missile site. The 20 acre underground complex includes a 12 ton door a 19 000 square foot workshop space and extensive wiring and equipment repurposed for automotive welding metal work and shop classes with potential for adult education. The site which operated from 1961 to later became a hands on training campus with plans to salvage trade parts and possibly use as a civil defense shelter while retaining the option to revert to the US government after 30 years if unused.
