Merlyn Carlson Named Judge At Denver National Western
Merlyn Carlson of Lodgepole is named among judges for the National Western Stock Show in Denver January 10 to 18. Other officials include Jack Res segteu of Alliance and Milo Whitcomb of Sterling Colorado. The 63rd show expects at least the third highest entry total in history with about 4240 animals entered, down slightly from 1967 and 1968 due to fewer Hereford breeding cattle and open class steers. Carload division entries are not final, with about 2000 bulls in yards and a possibly reduced feeder cattle count amid a strong fall market. Breeding cattle listed include 460 Angus 390 Hereford 185 Shorthorn 152 Charolais and 118 Santa Gertrudis plus junior stock from 12 states and a record 100 breeding heifers. Open class totals include 281 fat steers.
