A 1939 Ford coupe owned by Joseph St. Lawrence of the Sioux Ordnance Depot was damaged in an accident at 4 45 p m Saturday on Highway 30 seven miles west of Sidney. Damages were estimated at about 250 dollars.

RY Honorary Program Set
Official approval of an honorary member project for Cheyenne County Rural Youth was given at a Friday night meeting. One man and one woman instrumental to Rural Youth will be named honorary members and honored at a spring dance. A nominating committee will select candidates, with final votes by the organization. The spring formal will become an annual event. Mrs. Mary Egging known as western Nebraska oil queen, 60, was badly hurt in a head on collision near Gurley. Her son John, driving, suffered a slight concussion. both were hospitalized in Sidney. Driver of the other car, Fred Spindle of Ohio Oil Co., had minor injuries. Poor visibility blamed on a ground blizzard. both cars damaged. The crash occurred about 7:30 a m on a country road.

Fire destroys furniture in Kimball area truck blaze
A stock truck loaded with household furniture caught fire five miles east of Kimball on Highway 30. Leo Rooney and Keith Dean drove toward Kimball with the horn blaring to summon help. Firefighters saved the truck but the furniture was destroyed amid high winds. a cigarette likely started the blaze. The truck belonged to Melvin Bartow of Gering, and Dean was moving from Sidney to Gering.

State Bond Buying Nears 100 Million

Fire Marshal Lists Repairs for Condemned Sidney Building
State fire marshal E C Iverson says a list of recommended repairs will be sent to the Cheyenne county attorney to relay to the 75 year old hotel and cafe owner. He says bringing the structure to safety will be costly though the supreme court allowed a repair option with the owner a chance to proceed. An architect joined Iverson in inspecting the building after the district court had upheld demolition.

New Wildcat Test Planned in Cheyenne County Nebraska
An independent oil test is planned in Cheyenne County this month with drilling to begin late this week. The site in Section 7-16-47 lies about eleven miles west and two miles south of Dalton on land owned by Col. Golden P. Kratz of Washington DC. The Ohio Oil Co. and other leaseholders back the venture, led by C E Stout and Fred Morgan with contractors Suhr Fielder and Locke. The drill will test the Lakota sand around 4500 feet, near a seismograph high shot by Ohio Oil.

McCook Group Plans Red Willow Oil Test in 1950
Encouraged by discoveries near Sidney, McCook businessmen plan to finance an oil test well in Red Willow county near Indianola after January 1, 1950. Earl Evans says about 3,500 acres under lease around Indianola and 1,165 acres in the drilling block. Glen Nye of Hays Kansas will drill to 3,500 feet unless oil appears earlier. Oil fever has gripped McCook for 25 years with several wildcat wells but no pay zones found.
