Severe highway ice grips Sidney and Panhandle area

The Nebraska Panhandle faces 100 percent ice on highways centered from Alliance to the state line and Kimball to Chappell. Snow fell twice but was wet and icy, creating hazardous streets in Sidney and road delays between Ogallala and Chappell. Temperatures stayed near freezing, but sun helped melt ice Sunday.

Panhandle Weather Turns Colder With Snow Likely

The Panhandle forecast shows mainly cloudy and warm conditions this afternoon and early tonight with winds 25 to 35 mph. Temperatures fall tonight and Tuesday with highs in the 30s. Snow chances rise to 60 percent tonight and again Tuesday, with five percent this afternoon. Five day outlook calls for temperatures 6 to 12 degrees below normal through Saturday and frequent changes with a chance of snow.

Crop Insurance Income and Losses in Nebraska Wheat Year

Arkansas Man Takes Life At Motel

Rolland E. Fallowell 66 of Benton Arkansas was found dead in a motel room Sunday night from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Attendants reported he arrived Friday seeking a warm room for several days and asked not to be disturbed. Burial awaits authorization as relatives declined the remains. Survivors include one sister and three brothers. The body remains at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with county officials handling disposition and estate liquidation to cover costs.

Latin America Seen as Key Market for Nebraska Wheat

Potter farmer Ron Maas, executive secretary of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Assn, says Latin America buys about 15 percent of US wheat and praises US hard winter wheat.
