Curtis Urges 25 Percent Tariff On Foreign Livestock Imports
Senator Carl Curtis argues that rising imports of foreign meat and products harm U S stockmen and farmers and the economy. He backs S 126 for a 25 percent tariff above 1957 levels while noting Finance Committee studies and farm land displacement. He cites lower cattle prices in Omaha Kansas City and Chicago and broader effects on grain hay and equipment demand. The piece also cites job openings in Sidney Nebraska and area high school testing programs.
