Slowing diminishing winds tonight with partly cloudy mild conditions. Low near 30 degrees. Tomorrow partly cloudy with west winds 20 to 30 mph shifting to northerly and colder with light snow flurries late afternoon or evening. High around 50.
Henry Bangert 87 died yesterday in a Pasadena hospital after years of ill health. Funeral services will be held in Sidney with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. He was born in Essen Germany, came to the U S in 1886, lived in Omaha then Pine Bluffs before Sidney since 1890, and worked 50 years for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was married twice, survived by his wife Ella, four children, two stepchildren, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
The United States Atomic Energy Commission brings the Atoms for Peace mobile exhibit to Sidney for two days under Sidney Jaycees sponsorship. Located on the west side of the city auditorium, it offers free views. Charles Willey chairs the showing with Friday expected to draw many visiting students. Public welcome at convenience.
Lodgepole High School seniors and freshmen set a new record for most brother sister combinations among two classes surpassing Potter High School. The six pairs listed are Roland and Barbara Jurgens James and Philip Ihrig Cliff and Donna Yeager Jerry and Gloria Vosika Larry and Linda Folkerts and Gladys and Keith Onken.
Snowy conditions across Cheyenne County caused eight weekend motor vehicle accidents with three injuries and property damage above $3,000. Sidney residents Harold Mathews and Eugene Rouillard collided after a 9:50 a.m. crash on Sixth Ave. and Linden St, while Victor Chambers struck Sharon Bauman at 19th Ave. and Newton St. Police logged multiple slick-road incidents including pole strikes and a head-on collision on Highway 30 near Lodgepole.
Ogallala businessman W D Messenger sells his Sidney accounting office to Milton D Anderson currently operating in Ogallala. Anderson will run the Sidney office with Don Himes as manager, marking the last accounting office once owned by Messenger.
Colorado officials in Washington press for federal designation of a four lane interstate from Big Springs Junction to Denver and through the Rockies to Salt Lake City. If approved it would replace the two lane plan to the Wyoming line and divert traffic from Highway No 30.
The Chamber of Commerce will report the 1957 membership drive results at a quarterly dinner meeting at the country club. Ralph Welch is unopposed for president. Ralph Thompson, retiring president, will preside until new officers take over. Top topics include the 1957 budget and a major upcoming work program.

Gasoline prices fell at Sidney service stations with regular at 26.9 cents and ethyl at 28.9 cents. Stations offered no stated reason for the lower price and a station operator said they were simply selling gas at a reduced rate.
A Cheyenne County Fair award winning sample of Spearow's Wheat grown by Ralph E Spearow northeast of Sidney earned 13th place in the hard red winter wheat division at the Chicago International Grain and Hay Show held with the International Live Stock Exposition. Rolland Roberts of Bayard had a separate sample that placed third in its division.
The suit for $10,798 was filed in district court over LeRoy Bennett’s death on July 20 when a car driven by Ronald Erickson drove from a 7th Ave bridge into Legion Park lagoon. Earl Bennett, as administrator of LeRoy’s estate, seeks $10,090 for death and $798 for funeral expenses, alleging negligence and wrongful acts by Erickson.
Lincoln AP three amendments approved by Nebraska voters in the November general election became law after proclamations by Gov Victor Anderson. Proclamations affirmed canvassing board findings and declared amendments on truck fines, state officers salaries, and grain tax method in force as constitutional. Also declared defeated the ten mile tax law and proposals for a tax commissioner and absolvent of past real estate taxes.
The King's Daughters drive trails last year but has reached 61666 this morning. A Christmas charity plan is set for this evening with further contributions welcomed by mail or at The Telegraph office. Notable gifts include Beta Sigma Phi 100, Mutual Improvement Club 6.10, several couples and anonymous donors, and groups like U. P. Oldtimers Club 29 Auxiliary 10.
A cardboard Elvis Presley cutout stole from the Fox Theatre lobby reappeared Saturday night hanging from the marquee. It was cut down by others before police could act. Fox manager Elmer Haines suspects teens removed it from the lobby and marquee. The film Love Me Tender plays through Tuesday at the Fox with near capacity crowds.
George and Mollie Backer seek a new trial after a district court jury awarded the City of Sidney $10 000 in the suit over the 15th Ave underpass construction that affected the Backers vacant lot at 13th Ave and Grant St.
North Potter region reports two new wildcat oil discoveries in Cheyenne and Banner counties, the 41st and 42nd of the year in the Panhandle. Braden Drilling Co. said Wykert No 1 in Kimball County shows oil potential with a test in the D sand, while Shell Oil reports favorable look at Darnall No 1 in Banner. New locations announced include Johnson A No 1 in Cheyenne and Tremain No 1 in Banner with crews moving in this week.
