The first of five Zone schools for volunteer firemen met at the Sidney Fire Hall Thursday night to train across new fire prevention methods and civil defense steps including atomic-bomb precautions. J I Fetters led the program with Fred Otte present. Forty nine firemen from Nebraska Panhandle communities and from Sterling and Peetz, Colorado attended. remaining gatherings will be in Sidney on December 14 and January 4 February 1 and March 1.

Russell Rose Dies Suddenly
Russell A. Rose, 40, a Union Pacific railroad engineer, died suddenly at his Cheyenne home after a heart attack. He came to Cheyenne nine and a half years ago from Dalton to work in the railroad, survived by his wife and three children, his mother Mrs. Mae Rose of Sidney, sister Mrs. Evelyn Siemers of Omaha, and brothers Francis of Gurley and Kenneth of Potter. He held memberships in the Methodist church, Masonic lodge, Elks lodge, and Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engin eers.
