County Board Minutes from Gurley Nebraska December 5 1916

Cheyenne County Nebraska Board of County Commissioners met in Sidney and Gurley to review remonstrance against liquor license for Lot Four Block Three Gurley. Appointed Lena L. Jessen deputy treasurer starting January 4 1917. Bonds set for Myrtle Lancaster Jesse Sitton Anna McFadden and others. Audited claims include Vienna Restaurant University Press and local firms. Sidney City Council then met approving November liabilities and ordering bids for old plant sale January 5 1917 with Rose Street lighting plan and docket for Police Judge vacancy.

Foot Fall Injures Ed Spitler in Thanksgiving Accident

Ed Spitler of Conner and Spitler sustained severe injuries in a fall from a second floor plank while prying steel during building work on the Hahler Building. He suffered dislocated shoulders, a badly bruised back, and two broken ribs, remaining unconscious at scene before gradual improvement at home. His prognosis remains cautious with a long recovery ahead. Also noted are visits by Misses Marie and Josephine Sennett from Fremont and a window glass ad for Viggo Nelson.

Defender of Connell Dies in Denver

The Denver papers last week announced the death of Attorney George S. Redde who died suddenly before an operation could be made. Redde was known for making the able but hopeless defense of Frank Connell, now serving a life term for the murder of Ira C. Paup at Sunok on July 28th.

Victim of Shot Left Dying in Redington Area

Erma Ulman a three year old daughter of John Ulman living near Redington died after being shot Wednesday of last week. A five year old cousin fired a loaded revolver and struck her in the chest. She lingered until Thursday morning. The incident follows sidewalk bicycle mishaps and a local city ordinance against riding on sidewalks.

Priscilla Club Christmas Meeting Reminder

Priscilla Club meets Thursday evening December 7 with Mrs Charles Couch. All members urged to attend to exchange presents. Also noted: Farmers Union officers and members spent Monday in town arranging store rooms scaling and organizing interests.
