Heavy Damage From Two Weekend Sidney Accidents
Police reported a 1:50 p.m. Saturday crash at 12th and Illinois involving Ned A. Peterson of Burdock South Dakota driving a 1965 Chevrolet and Carlos A. Lodez of Commercial Hotel Sidney in a 1956 Ford. Damages were 350 and 250 dollars respectively. A second incident Friday evening included a 1958 Chevrolet owned by Allen D. McGee rolling into a light pole with 150 dollars damage and a transformer damage, and a two car crash at 13th and Illinois injuring a 1956 Mustang driven by Herbert W. Marcellus with 40 dollars damage to the Mustang.

Katharine E. Linthicum, 77, longtime resident of Sidney, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital after illness. She lived with her daughter Loretta Guzinski. Funeral and burial services will be in Lincoln Tuesday, arranged by Gehrig & Son. Born Katharine Elizabeth Williams August 19 1887 in Atchison County Missouri, she married Alvin Linthicum January 19 1906 at Loup City Nebraska. Surviving are three daughters, five sisters, four brothers, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son.

Power Line Hearing Set in Western Nebraska Route
The State Power Review Board will hold two hearings this month on proposed high voltage lines from North Platte to Stegall via Sidney. Tri-State seeks a 99 mile line costing about 3.66 million dollars, with a Dec 15 hearing. Consumers Public Power District seeks 118 miles at about 4.45 million dollars, with a Dec 21 hearing. The lines would connect to a Bureau of Reclamation switching station at Stegall.

Mortgage Burning Set by Grace Baptist Church on Dec 10
Grace Baptist Church marks its ninth anniversary with a mortgage burning ceremony on December 10, the day of the annual Christmas family dinner. The church began as North Park Baptist Mission on Oct 10, 1955 in Sidney with five founding families and moved to 20th and Elm in 1956. Since then the church, now with 75 members, has grown its program and facilities, including a high school and junior high fellowship, women’s group Gleaners, Rupples Klub for couples, a choir, and missionary support. The plan is to retire the mortgage debt at the celebration. Only the Emil Van Mark family remains from the original five families.
