First County Road Permit Issued For Overweight Loads

National Tank and Supply Co. Friday became the first firm to apply for and receive the new county road permits. The permits authorize trucks hauling overweight loads that cannot be divided into two loads on county roads.

Troopers Log 7 495 Miles in November

Nebraska Safety Patrolmen logged 7 495 miles in November. The monthly report lists 122 violations and 15 warnings issued, 38 motorists aided, 34 road obstructions removed, 10 safety programs given, 760 patrol hours and 19 overtime hours.

Snowy Weekend Brings Minor Accidents and Warm Upgrade

Warmer air is expected to melt some snow after a light weekend storm that brought up to three inches in most areas and six inches in the Dalton region. Ground temperatures were much colder than the air, with an airline report showing 21 degrees aloft and ten below on the surface. Total recorded damage from three sledged incidents stood at about 1325 dollars with no injuries. Accidents included a two-vehicle collision near Sidney, an out-of-control car on icy U.S. 30 near Sunol, and a two-truck crash on slick pavement east of Sidney.

Christmas Seal Fund Nears Halfway Total

California Youth Admits Auto Theft

A 16 year old Wilmington youth Charles Buxton pleaded guilty to stealing a car in Sidney on Thursday night. In county court arraignment Saturday Buxton admitted taking the auto of Miss Jo Neeley. The car was recovered in Sterling within an hour. Buxton was held to district court for hearing and possible sentencing with bond set at 500 dollars.

Sidneyites Injured In Post Game Crash

Mrs. Peter Nielsen, 40, of Sidney, and her son Jim Nielsen were hurt in a car truck collision near Sutherland after a North Platte Sid ney basketball game. Jim sustained cuts and bruises while Mrs Nielsen suffered a dislocated hip and facial cuts. She remained hospitalized and not expected to be released for several days.

Fairgrounds State Auction Slated Dec 28

The State Board of Educational Lands and Funds will auction 63.9 acres of Cheyenne County fairgrounds on Dec 28. Located west of Sidney on a state school land section, plans to convert to residential use risk condemnation. County seeks 12 year lease as alternative to costly suit. Auction set in county treasurer’s office for land parcels 36-14-50.

Lagoon Dredging Plan Dropped Because of Cold Weather

City Manager Murrey Fuller said little or no more work will be done on the Legion Park Lagoon dredging as cold weather halts progress. About half the lagoon has been deepened but the dredging firm left to unload gravel for the state highway department in Chadron. Gates at Lodgepole Creek will be closed to let the area fill with water and the frozen surface prepared for skating once the lagoon is deemed safe.

Drilling Firm Fined $440 In Cheyenne Court

Lewis Drilling Co. was assessed a total fine of 440 dollars in Cheyenne County Court on six trucking violation charges. Three Lewis trucks were stopped two miles east of Sidney yesterday by the Nebraska Safety Patrol. Raymond Olson pleaded guilty to no mileage permit overlength overweight on tandem axles and was fined 420 dollars plus costs. Vern Dawson and Earl Cooper, other drilling company drivers, were fined 10 dollars plus costs each on no mileage permit charges. All pleaded guilty.

Lavan Sneith a 41 year old of Sidney requests a hearing tomorrow in Cheyenne County Court on a charge of driving under the influence following an auto crash near Lodgepole last Wednesday. Bond was posted at 250 dollars after his Saturday arraignment where he pleaded innocent.
