The blaze, thought to start in the basement from an overheated furnace, spread between walls and up through hot air ducts, weakening walls floors and ceilings before crews controlled it. H L Pyle, arrested after several no fund checks were found, pleaded guilty and received a two year sentence. Checks totaling about 168 dollars were drawn on The American National Bank with no account. Police advised verifying identity, calling the bank, and avoiding after hours cashing to prevent losses.
