Kinkaid law may be widened to grant more arable land
Owaba papers report efforts in Congress to amend the Kinkaid homestead act to redraw land from entry into arable irrigation and grazing zones. Proposals include selling unclaimed lands to settlers at 10 to 25 cents an acre and allow homeseekers to commute land after a period. Supporters argue larger holdings aid farming and cattle interests while fencing by cattle barons has boxed in government lands.
