The American Legion in Sidney plans tentative vigilante units to aid the sheriff against bank robberies and other law violations in Nebraska. Members will arm and form posses when needed, using the post armory for rifles, signaling a stern warning to criminals.
Sidney merchants urge early Christmas shopping as ads tout special December offers and a short season. With 20 shopping days to Christmas, residents are urged to plan lists and avoid shortages as wholesalers warn late orders may not arrive. Delegates from nine towns attended the North Platte and Scottsbluff Episcopal deaneries meeting here Tuesday. Notable addresses were given by John Rock, Mrs. L. B. Garey, Mrs. John McCleneghan, and Rev. J. L. Frische. Bishop George Allen Beecher was principal speaker and performed confirmations and baptisms in the evening.

Sheriff William Schulz brought Roy Rider to Dalton on Tuesday evening. Rider, arrested in Grand Rapids, Mich., faces charges in Cheyenne county for passing a forged ten dollar check on Mayer Brothers at Dalton last October 22. A Wednesday hearing before County Judge R A Barlow was planned, but County Attorney R P Kepler was absent, leaving uncertainty on proceedings. Rider allegedly forged the name Sam Sawyers to the check, a fictitious alias to imply validity.
Fox theatre managers at Sterling district convention pledged new entertainment ideas to beat the Christmas slump. Ewart Boyd, manager of the local picture house, said the goal is to offer material of merit to attract regular theatre patrons.
Cheyenne county farmers and Sidney merchants await the half million dollars due under the wheat acreage allotment plan. The allotment committee has mailed the first contracts to Washington and expects checks to follow quickly, potentially by December 15. The Telegraph prints the official allotments for six Cheyenne county precincts Sidney Lorenzo Huntsman Pleasant View Colton and Chambers after applications were checked and a general two per cent county reduction applied. Figures show the amount each farmer can operate under contract with the government and risk expulsion for noncompliance. The county total rose despite the reduction due to local efforts adding about 220000 bushels of wheat, about 32000 dollars more for participating farmers. About 90 percent of Cheyenne wheat growers are taking part while most large farmers are in line and many small growers signed early. Two thirds of payments will arrive soon with the remainder mailed from Washington late next spring after contract compliance is verified.
Tele graph reprints a 50 year old account of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Boots of Thermopolis Wyoming. Married November 24 1883 the couple met on Pumpkin Creek in the late 1870s. More than 60 guests arrived from distances of 10 to 80 miles. The ceremony took place under an evergreen arch with a floral horseshoe and was officiated by Rev L Stevens of Sidney.
Sidney High School begins basketball buildup for 1933 34 under Coach Black with Vern Inomas captaining the Maroons and Thomas a football star in the potential lineup. Prospects hinge on whether city auditorium use is approved to boost crowds as practice starts next week and December opens the schedule.
Guy Brill 40 of Cheyenne former court reporter in Sidney and prominent Wyoming political figure died from an automobile crash south of Thermopolis. He had served ten years as secretary of the Wyoming Republican organization and lived in Sidney during his court reporting days. Brill and his family were well known in the community and news of his death prompted wide comment Tuesday.

Additional projects include Crab Orchard, Bloomington, Elgin, Thayer county road work and river-related labor, with details on wages and hours.
The Interstate Transit lines and Union Pacific stages cut fares nationwide from Chicago to the Pacific coast, with some reductions up to 50 percent. Traffic manager E J Condon said the new rates are the lowest ever offered by a dependable travel company. County Judge Barlow presided with county attorney R P Kepler presenting the state's case.
Western railroads begin a six month experiment with lower passenger fares. One way coach travel costs 2 cents per mile while Pullman seats cost 3 cents per mile. Sleeping accommodations fall to 38 percent cheaper. The cuts apply west of Chicago and St. Louis.
Mr and Mrs Joe Daniels longtime Sidney residents and caretakers at the local country club plan to move to California this weekend to settle in Pomona after their son was killed in an auto accident there. They have been active in the Christian church and have two children already in Pomona.
Sixth district federation officers plan the district convention next year. Mrs Grubb of Kimball treasurer will join the board of directors for planning. Mrs J W Johnson leads the local session as meeting coordinator.
State Land Commissioner Conklin will travel to Devel Kimball Cheyenne Scotts Bluff Banner and Morrill counties to finish reappraisal of state school land leases. Hearings last week were unfinished and county boards offered no recommendations but prepared to take further action.
