Retired Sidney railroader builds house from scratch

W E Henke, a 70th birthday hopeful and former Union Pacific assistant superintendent, spends days starting February on a self built two bedroom home at 2310 San Marino Sidney. He uses improvised gear to raise rafters and place a 24 foot basement beam weighing about 800 pounds. He envisions finishing by year end but doubts the timeline. He plans to sell the completed house and remain at 2365 Craig with his wife. Henke recalls boredom after retirement and says he learned a lot through the project.

Sidney board calls special session on budget and bus case

The Sidney Board of Education will meet tonight at 7 45 in the Junior High School library to amend the 1975 76 budget by 2546 dollars and to consider providing school transportation for elementary students from Countryside Mobile Village, citing lacking sidewalks and a nearby bus route. Oil drilling activity picks up in southern Panhandle

Hearing not needed in tech college funding case

Attorneys for the Western Technical Community College Area told the state Supreme Court there is no need for a rehearing over funding of two-year colleges. They noted the ruling covers six technical college areas and contested whether the Alliance School of Practical Nursing was local before joining the tech system. The Alliance School was once run by the Alliance Public School District and governed by its board until it joined the technical college system.
