Sidney express robbery of 1882 linked to McCarty
Joseph M. Ward narrates the Sidney Nebraska gold shipment theft of 1882. Union Pacific treasurer Davis and pursuers traced a coal cellar hoard of 300000 dollars in gold bricks, currency worth 11000 missing, with Sheriff McCarty implicated. The raid exposed a trapdoor and auger system used to steal the treasure, leading to trials and later suspicions about McCarty’s involvement.

Important Notice To School Patrons In Nebraska
In Nebraska every person caring for a child aged seven to sixteen must ensure regular attendance at public private or parochial day schools where district schools are in session. Teachers must record attendance and absences and report weekly. Attendance officers with police powers will enforce the law and issue notices. If noncompliance occurs within a week the officer files a juvenile court complaint. In Cheyenne County the county commissioners and county superintendent appoint village and town marshals as attendance officers.
