Sidney suffered a Monday night break in by two burglars who entered the blacksmith shop through a broken front door and seized tools including new bits a nickel plated iron plane and a crowbar. They then pried open J R Merrifield’s jewelry store with the crow bar carried away eleven fountain pens and an optician's ophthalmoscope for a total loss around 35 dollars.
The eighteenth annual session at Sidney on August 18 1905 adopts multiple resolutions. The committee thanks the County Commissioners for educational funding, the Sidney school board for building and books, instructors Miss Frazier Mr Pate and Mr Zuck for their efforts, County Superintendent Mrs Knox for her kindness, and the press for favorable notices. Jesse Lannon, a Pueblo resident returning from a northwest mountain trip, was bruised when his foot was caught between truck wheel cars during switch at Burlington depot. County Physician Stewitts found no broken bones. He was treated then sent to the Commercial House for the night and continued toward Pueblo the next day.
Invitations show Sidney couple John T Flood and Louisa Katherine Fliedmann to wed at High Hill Missouri on September 6 1905. The groom, a Sidney native once employed by the government in Washington, has risen to a trusted post. The bride, though unknown locally, is wished happiness by THE TELEGRAPH. The couple will reside in Washington DC.
Co T Howard of Sunol received a telegram on Monday announcing the death of his eldest son Harry after about a year at sea service. Details are scarce with speculation that death may have been accidental, while Sam Weiselquist who recently left Imperial says Harry was well and working when last seen. Mr Howard traveled to Sidney and then Burlington to reach Imperial.
A Western Nebraska columnist laments cheap land and a looming eastern influx. He describes a Sidney area corn field twelve inches deep plowed for deep fertility, with fourteen acres of stalks and potential silos and milch cows to boost profits next winter, predicting a fortune in such holdings.
