Jordan Engineers Tour Cheyenne County Power Facilities

Two engineers from Jordan and an international farm exchange student visited Fort Sidney and Cheyenne county for a three month tour of U.S. power development. M Shahid Ismail and A Y Ensour of Amman led the delegation, sponsored by Wheatbelt Public Power District, with a U.S. escort from Richard Malchow of Miner and Miner Consulting Engineers.

Potter Youth Captures Grand Champion Baby Beef at Potter Fair

Cheyenne County Fair Fort Sidney Days drew 130 plus baby beef entries as 4-H youth showcased stock and a crossbred Duane Anderson 14 won Grand Champion with a Hereford Angus steer. Reserve honors went to Roger Luehrs, with multiple 4-H clubs represented.

Calves Sell at Rudy's 4-H Auction Grand and Reserve Champions

Rudy's Market bought both the grand champion and reserve champion baby beeves at the 4-H auction this afternoon. The grand champ sold for 47.50 per hundredweight and the reserve champ fetched 40 per hundredweight.

Over 50 Entries In Kids' Parade

A colorful float with kites and balloons won first in the artistic division. The entry titled The Newest Frontier The Atmosphere was built by Karen, Raymond and Stella Oliverius and Sally Warner. The four sang Lets Go Fly a Kite as they pulled their float along Jackson Street. First in humorous division went to a large covered wagon entered by DeAnn and Lorie Rathbun, Jan and Sam Cunningham, and Doug, Judy, Chris and Gail Bolin. Prizes ranged from five to twenty five dollars with 800 youngsters attending the Fox Theatre movie after a warm day of events.

Huge Balloon Sighting Over Sidney At 54 000 Feet

A silvery object was tracked moving eastward over Sidney. FAA identified a 107 foot diameter balloon with a 1 750 foot payload line. It hovered around 54 000 55 000 feet and may carry weather or altitude instruments to be released during the day.

Police Acted Properly in Sidney Arrest Case Says State Assn

Four young women selling magazines in Sidney after an incident with Cheyenne County sheriffs officers led to warnings about door to door sales. The Police Officers Assn of Nebraska said two Sidney police officers acted properly in arresting Clarence Bills, who faced assault and battery suit while the city ordered investigation. The association offered aid to the officers and noted the suit appears punitive.

Welfare Signup in Cheyenne County Thursday and Friday

Cheyenne County residents receiving old age assistance aid for the disabled and aid for the blind are asked to visit the Cheyenne County Welfare office on Thursday or Friday, August 26 and 27, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to sign new forms for the newly authorized increased benefits.

Tornadic Storm Ravages Cheyenne County During Fort Sidney Parade

A northwest to southeast tornado like storm struck Cheyenne County late Monday bringing four inch rain, baseball sized hail, and widespread damage. Sunol and Lodgepole suffered roof, window and garden destruction while crops were torn and power outages occurred. Patrols and Farmers faced downed poles, with restoration by early hours.
