Ammonia Tank Rupture Near Sidney Causes Evacuations
A 1967 Ford pickup pulling a trailer with 4000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia ruptured on Highway 30 west of Sidney at 8 05 a m. The tank spilled gas prompting residents, especially on the north side, to close windows as a precaution. No injuries reported and road blockage lasted 1 hour 25 minutes.

Prominent Potter Lady Florence Nelson Dies at 84
Florence I Herboldsheimer Nelson, a pioneer Potter resident, died this morning at Memorial Rest Home at age 84. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 pm at Potter United Methodist Church, Rev. Ted McIntyre officiating. burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Sidney. Craig-Holechek Funeral Home in charge with memorials to Potter Methodist Church and Camp Rock at Redington. She was born October 31, 1885 in Hastings, moved with her family to Cheyenne County, married Peter Nelson in 1904, and lived mainly on a Potter farm before moving to the Rest Home three years ago. Surviving are three daughters, two sons, three sisters, three brothers, 19 grandchildren, and 51 great grandchildren.

New Rates Approved On Vets' Compensation Pay
The Veterans Administration announces new monthly compensation rates for disabled veterans, effective retroactively to July 1 and rising across all disability percentages.
