Stork Delivers Baby In One Block Race At Sidney
At 4:10 a.m. at the Sidney Memorial Hospital emergency entrance a baby boy weighing six pounds fourteen ounces was born with father Bob Schilz and nurse assistance present. Mrs. Schilz had awakened at 3:30 a.m. and speeded to the hospital with the attending medical team arriving soon after. The Schilz family of 541 Lucille Lane has four older children. the baby is unnamed.

A 19 year old Scottsbluff woman died after apparently jumping from a car on Highway 86 two miles east of Gerin. Driver Roderick Prue said they argued and she opened the door at 45 to 50 mph. Prue and Kenneth Prairie Chicken were detained for investigation. the Garneaux couple were released. The death raises the year highway fatality toll to 210.

Winners of the Old Shoe contest sponsored by McCoy’s Shoe Store were announced Saturday evening. Susan Anthony took first with 1,411 pairs and won a bicycle, Mike Stine was second with 1,170, earning a portable radio, and Jamie Sobrinozaiw, third with 1,047, won a 116 goff certificate. A total of 7,060 pairs were submitted by 27 contestants, and the event concluded with donations to the Salvation Army. Other fair results include grand and reserve champions in beef, breeding heifer, dairy, swine, and sheep divisions, with numerous trophies and showmanship awards listed for Sidney, Dalton, Gurley, and surrounding areas.

Frontier Airlines officials stated Sidney will not gain a Cheyenne air link in the near term. The plan to add a Denver Cheyenne Scotts Bluff Alliance Sidney shuttle would drop an east west flight and raise Sidney Denver fares by about 3.35 dollars. A new central Nebraska east west route would bypass Sidney north to Alliance and Scottsbluff to Cheyenne, with no stop here deemed economical.

A 20 year old Sidney youth, Ford Hernandez, drove off the road and sheared a steel bridge rail about 53 miles south of Brownson at 7 45 pm Saturday. State Trooper Robert Zapp estimated damage to the 1958 car at 250 dollars. Hernandez said he fell asleep at the wheel.

Wayne Rapp Heads New Civitan Club in Sidney
Wayne Rapp 34 district manager of Farmers Insurance was elected president of Sidney s new Civitan Club at a weekend organizational meeting. Twenty seven men signed the charter roster and officers include Matthes as first vice president Drum as secretary Ott treasurer and Sharp chaplain with Foreman Holloway Bowen Phelps and Bauer as directors. Charter expected in six to eight weeks with weekly breakfast meetings planned and the first at 6 am tomorrow at Rails Cafe. Sidney becomes the second Civitan Club in the state Scottsbluff to receive a charter at a related program Saturday night.
