Authorities fear a missing 50 year old man with a large roll of money vanished on August ninth. Theres speculation of foul play as searches by neighboring counties widen. The man, described as a natural with a local accent, lived in Chappella and recently worked highway jobs. The case has drawn attention to his associates and possible mental strain.
Felton, head of agricultural department, discusses July revenue and beer tax figures. The state board maintains the annual levy with the beer tax set at 222 dollars, while current collections are up to August and May figures show variation.
Figures show average family paid more for a month of foods in July. Farm administration counsel said prices rose about 18.26 dollars, with processors and distributors taking the rest, while other details remain unclear.

Mrs. McDaniel Jr. is back in Rushville after an automobile crash ten days ago. She is resting but suffers a badly fractured jaw that will require several weeks to heal, and her jaw was not set until her return to Sidney.
With under three months before the general election, candidates finish primaries then draft autumn programs and plan two months of campaigning beginning around September 1. A transcontinental bicycle relay from Potter to Sidney, led by Nels Miller, finished the Sidney-Chappell leg in one hour forty five minutes despite rain delays. Twenty two Sidney lads participated in the relay to Chappell under Iven Robinson. many local riders listed. The race targets the 1896 San Francisco to New York record of 1314 days, with both west east and south western routes aiming to beat it as road improvements shorten distances.
Carpenter, Democrat from Scottsbluff and former congressman, filed the largest primary expense yet at $4000, ignoring required donor and purpose details. Republican Senate nominee Simmons reported $0 personal spending, $1,908 in contributions and $1,870.36 in expenditures, with $37.64 on hand and a $750 debt, $600 thereof for radio service and $150 for printing.
A pack of wild dogs near Bridgeport was nearly exterminated by a hunt organized like Nebraska wolf drives. Only two large police dogs remain from a dozen. Ownership of the dogs was never established and the incident caused damage by attacking chickens.
Sunday at Kimball baseball park showcases a pivotal Wheat Belt League clash between Kimball, leading the standings, and Sidney, runner up. The teams split their three meetings this season, two wins to Kimball, and the result could crown the league champion. Regular admission applies.
Outdoor camp life unfolds at Krueger's lake with 60 plus district scouts under C. A. Lody. Camp runs Monday to Saturday featuring swimming and lifesaving, leathercraft, scoutcraft, baseball, boating, fishing and more. Leaders include Wells, Burrows, Story, Webster, Wait, with divisions Bear and Beaver and patrol leaders listed.
Nebraska officials expect an open duck season from October 15 to November 15 with 30 days of hunting. The state faces pressure from Minnesota and several other states to join a closed season, but a special meeting is unlikely. The Democratic county convention will be held in the district court room Thursday August 30 at 7 30 p m to select delegates to the state convention at Omaha September 6 Precinct caucuses precede the convention on Tuesday August 28 at 8 p m at local voting places to choose delegates The precincts and delegate counts are listed with a total of 64 Representation is one delegate per 50 Roosevelt votes in 1932 plus at least two delegates from each precinct
Sidney loses a respected pair as Mr W H Ellis and Mrs Ellis move to Spokane Washington. They have lived here since 1921. Mr Ellis recently retired from Union Pacific and was honored at a party by railroad employees and officials.
Sidney reports a half inch of rain on Wednesday morning followed by a late hail storm and severe lightning as a cold change sent highs under 70. Detours along the Lincoln highway near Kimball were nearly impassable while winds cooled the area and residents layered up in coats.
The Telegraph Drive subscription contest enters its midweek as workers press hard to gather subs. Early results show many near the same pace with winners emerging only at the end. Top performers will earn eight $2.50 bonuses plus 250,000 bonus votes per $10 in subscriptions by Saturday September 1, fueling keen competition.
A large barn on the George Winklemans farm ten miles west of Dalton was destroyed by fire after lightning struck during a severe electrical storm. All contents except three hogs were saved, with other livestock and stored grain saved by prompt action. Tax Commissioner Smith reports rapid growth in Nebraska electric appliances. Refrigerators numbered 16,034 in 1932 rising to 20,832 in 1933 and 27,009 in 1934. Valuations reached 1,204,955, 1,176,515 and 1,394,490 dollars respectively.
