Sidney Area Drilling Bets Grow With New Farmouts

In Cheyenne County reports several drilling deals surface near Sidney including a Magnolia lease at the J farm and a No. 1 Jung tank wildcat three miles east. Chicago Corp Ohio Oil Co and others plan new wells as work resumes after a lull. No. 4 Rapp and Doran Farms No. 15 locations are staked. Drilling continues toward several targets with gas encounters noted and water issues at Tobler and Haupt tests.

Natural Gas Reserves Hiked West of Sidney

Drilling activity west and northwest of Sidney has boosted known natural gas reserves with eight to ten more wells needed for full assessment. A future, larger drilling program hinges on pooling agreements and leaseholders. Officials note no current plans for a new processing plant, though rumors of Ohio building one persist. A seven inch line from Marlowe field to Huntsman plant will unlock shut-in reserves and ease high gas-oil ratios in the area.

Depot civilian staff to drop by forty by Sept. 15

According to Col. Gol. G. siren of the Sioux Ordnance Depot, the civilian personnel strength will fall about 40 between now and Sept. 15 as maintenance on ammunition wraps up. Most cuts come from nonreplacement of resigning staff and several supervisory positions will be abolished. Vacancies will be offered to those whose jobs are canceled under Civil Service Regulations. No further reductions expected soon.

Griffith oil worker sentenced to death for wife’s shotgun slaying

Hugh Griffith, Sidney oil worker, was sentenced to die in Cheyenne district court for the shotgun killing of his wife. The verdict was appealed, upheld by the Supreme Court, and a rehearing motion was filed. Griffith contends he was not in Sidney when the killing occurred.

American Legion Post No. 17 changes its meeting from Aug 25 to Aug 27. A 6:30 p.m. dinner will be served at the Legion Club and new officers will be installed. Louis Johnson, post adjutant, announced the update.

Two Killed as Driver Dozes in Head On Collision near Potter

Two California tourists, Juanita Gosnell and Arie Evans, died in a head on crash on Highway 30 ten miles west of Potter. The 1953 Ford carrying the pair collided with a water truck driven by Don Mason. both occupants were asleep. The wreck occurred at 4:15 AM as the car veered into the truck’s path, vehicle debris and borrow pit damage reported. Authorities said the truck driver could not avoid the impact. weather and road conditions noted. bodies taken to Craig Mortuary, arrangements pending. The scene involved multiple vehicles and SOD workers en route to Kimball and surrounding towns.

Tragic crash ties funeral plans to courtroom action

In Sidney at the Grant and 16th intersection a collision left a girl dead and injuries to others. Captain Bielanin was granted emergency leave to join the patrol in Denver while a court hearing proceeds on vehicle homicide and leaving the scene.

Infant Kloberdanz Dies at Birth Graveside Services Held

Infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank J Kloberdanz died shortly after birth. Graveside services were conducted August 14 at Greenwood Cemetery with burial by Craig Mortuary. Survivors include the parents and three other children.

Funeral services for Eliza W. Meyer 71 longtime Cheyenne County resident who died Tuesday will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 2 PM with Rev. Henry Monnich officiating. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Jaycees Continue Scotchlite Drive In Sidney

The Sidney Jaycees will conduct a Scotchlite bumper retrofitting drive from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in Sidney, using Wright's Conoco and the Jolly Rancher area for the operation. Cars will be parked at the County Fair, following a Tuesday noon meeting approving the plan. A countywide safety campaign is being launched.
