4-H Livestock Sale Shows Higher Total at Fair Grounds

Monday's 24th annual 4-H Livestock Sale at the fair grounds topped $54,000 in total receipts up from last year while fewer animals sold. Top price was $99 per hundred for Mark Christensen's grand champion steer bought by Decker's Tru Valu Family Center. Receipts reached $54,784.68 with market calves averaging $58.42 per hundred and progress cattle averaging $47.46. market lambs and swine also posted notable totals and averages.

Ford invites wheat growers to pursue world market access

President Ford met for about 30 minutes at the Vail Holiday Inn with Ray Davis of Potter and other wheat groups and urged producers to keep markets open. He pledged to push unrestricted access to world markets and to lower tensions over the longshoremen strike, saying negotiations could solve issues without action.

Fairbury battles over Pershing College campus sale

Battle lines form in Fairbury as Southeast Tech considers acquiring the Pershing College site. More than 200 people packed the Scott Hall basement as the Southeast Tech Board met to discuss the possible purchase amid local controversy. The University of Nebraska Foundation involvement was noted from the prior year.

Millet Sorghum Field Day at High Plains Ag Lab

Field Day set for Thursday at the High Plains Agricultural Lab north of Sidney. Ken Sakurada will MC and guide a half day tour beginning at 9 a.m. Experts from University of Nebraska Lincoln and Panhandle Station will lead discussions on millet sorghum and wheatgrass topics and related agronomy.

Hearing Set on Rural Water District Near College

A public hearing will be held Thursday night at Western Nebraska Technical College to discuss creating a rural water district for property east of the college. The South Platte NRD sponsors the hearing to explore the need for an improvement project area and a water supply system East of the college. Representatives from the college and Sidney Warehousing and Industrial Sites asked the NRD to take over the system under NRD powers. The board scheduled the hearing before deciding on the request. a decision will not be made at the hearing. The current system serves Sioux Army Depot area and campus users. The hearing begins 8 pm in room 11 of the business building.

Heat and storm risk loom across Nebraska and South Dakota

An east west front over southern South Dakota drifts toward eastern Nebraska by early Thursday. Extreme western Nebraska faces widely scattered thundershowers this afternoon and evening. Thompson to head county zoning office

Cheyenne County appoints F B Tommy Thompson as county zoning administrator to issue building permits under the recently approved development plan. He notes permit paperwork will take about 30 days to implement. Commissioners cite his local reach as key to serving outlying areas.
