Disguising Joint and Crack Fillers in Road Surfaces
A new material developed by the Bureau of Public Roads and United States Department of Agriculture may hide road joint and crack fillers by matching concrete color. Early tests show satisfactory adhesion and flow into cracks when heated, though longer trials are needed before wide use. The blend is about 12 parts rosin to one part crude rubber with barium sulfate for color, dissolved rubber in gasoline then heated and mixed.

Extreme Cold Fails to Halve Gypsy Moth Eggs in Many Areas
U S Department of Agriculture studies show gypsy moth eggs survive best when not snowed in, with temperatures from minus 20 to minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit preventing hatching only under protection. Maine New Hampshire and parts of New England gain some benefit but many regions see little impact while cold harms moth parasites. Researchers note climate alone cannot curb the spread and seek explanations for slow moth increases despite cold threats.
