Street Fair Proposed for Sidney by Local Trustees

Sidney Village Trustees adopt a resolution granting Rose street between First and Front for a free street fair from September 28 to 27 1902 under police regulations. John B. Church and Harry Killian pledge first class moral attractions with financial support from merchants and ongoing Midway shows vaudeville at the Opera House and dances at the Rink. The venture aims to attract rail connections and boost local trade with open air attractions and advertising.

Unsuccessful Safe Blowing at Local Post Office

Burglars blew a hole in the post office safe early Saturday but the explosion failed to damage the contents. About 400 dollars in government funds remained intact as thieves fled the scene leaving no clues. The entry began at Clogman’s blacksmith shop and ended with no mail or stamps disturbed.

Union Pacific roundhouse gains new engine and lathe

Stationary engine and lathe installed in the Union Pacific roundhouse on Wednesday. Flood water filled the Union Pacific well after the storm and had to be pumped out before use. Union Pacific officers visiting North Platte include R. W. Baxter E Buckingham and M J O'Brien. W R Cahill named trainmaster at Omaha and N J O'Brien named North Platte trainmaster. Gravel hauling halted due to heavy traffic while three labor gangs remain active at Archer Hillsdale and Bigsprings. Cut off Hillsdale Archer long work continues to October with gravel paused until spring and heavier grade work planned Archer Cheyenne next season.
