National survey shows Cheyenne County outpaced national buying power with local retail sales exceeding 22.374 million and an index of 105, six percent above the U.S. average. Local incomes rose to 34.456 million with 7 331 dollars per household as households formed and marriages increased.
The Cheyenne County Fair roping events plan a record turnout with about 250 top cowboys expected to compete across saddle bronc bare back calf roping bull riding steer wrestling and a steer roping event using Mexican Longhorns. A new goat tying contest for cowgirls and expanded arena space accompany admission set at 2 adults and 1 child in grandstand with general and reserve options.
Mrs. Sadie Elizabeth Erickson 73 died August 11 at Memorial Rest Home in Sidney after living there three years. Funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. O D Hoagland officiating. burial Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Gehrig and Son. She was born February 2 1892 in Potter, married Edwin Erickson in 1915, farmed near Potter, moved to Sidney in 1948. widower died 1952. Survived by daughter Mrs Bob Richie of Potter son Donald of Potter sister Mrs George Moore of Sidney and five grandchildren.
The Cheyenne County Registered Quarter Horse Show headlines the Cheyenne County Fair Fort Sidney Days program on Tuesday Aug 24. Halter classes start 8 am with performance at 1 pm, 14 halter classes carry 7.50 entry each for horses foaled 1961 and earlier through 1964. Western Pleasure Reining and Barrel Racing have 2.50 to 15 entry fees with purses 50 and 100. youth events allow non registered horses. Entries go to J B Baker Sidney 1744 Illinois St and Grand Champions receive 25 dollar trophies.
Gener ally fair weather continues tonight and Saturday in the Panhandle. The tonight low is 55 to 65 degrees while Saturday’s high tops 85 to 95 degrees with cooler conditions on Saturday.

Roland Musil a Potter farmer sustained serious burns to head face arms and hands at noon Thursday when vapor from a Pro pane tank at his farm home ignited He was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The ninth annual West Nebraska Threshing Bee will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 14 and 15, at Leonard Woznick’s farm one mile southeast of Bridgeport on Highway 385.
