County Agent announces wheat adjustment contracts and mailing plans. Sample copies, 21 applications, and blank forms will be mailed to wheat growers in the county as soon as mailing lists are compiled. The form requests signatures of landlords and tenants, land location, 1923 crops, and a rough farm sketch including fall 1929-30-31 wheat planted and harvest details.
County Commissioner Ford Weik Horst and County Clerk Henry Parrat traveled to Lincoln yesterday to witness bid openings on four local road projects. The party aims to secure contracting units under contrast to the county and maintain its crew of workers.
A Tuesday afternoon storm dumped heavy rain over parts of the Lodge Pole valley and nearby table lands. The rainfall lasted only a few minutes but was the heaviest of the season in the area.
A sequence of meteors flashed across the western sky Tuesday morning and evening, sparking excitement in western Nebraska towns. A trash box at the rear of Johnson Drug Company store caught fire Wednesday evening. Smoke rose high over the downtown area as a major blaze appeared to be in progress before firefighters extinguished it within minutes using chemicals after the alarm sounded.
The city reports varied business hours as codes govern retail and hardware stores while barber shops run 6 am to 5 30 pm. Most retailers open by 8 am and close around 5 pm with some firms still seeking standard hours. Secretary of State Harry Swanson announced that printed copies of the 11933 session laws were ready for distribution on Thursday. The state department of roads and irrigation will open bids today on four graveling and cone oiling projects in Cheyenne County. The oil line extends from Bronson to the Kint pall county line and the gravel runs from Sidney to Lodge Pole.
Government seed loan officials in Minneapolis announce a plan allowing debtors without cash to use half of their 1933 crop proceeds to cover harvesting and threshing costs up to 82 per acre, provided an equal amount is applied to the government loan and remittances are sent to the seed loan office. Buyers may advance payments without liens, hold receipts for inspection, and offset the grain sale against the loan vis-a-vis authorized expenses.
City engineer Charles Gardner discussed with James E. Lawrence the Lincoln improvement district No 3 curb gutter and storm sewer plans ideal for federal aid. Projects align with public works and highway funding rules and include Illinois street paving from 12th to 17th avenues and storm sewers from 18th to 21st avenues with a view to government financing and low-cash costs for the city.
Western Public Service company faces a county court suit for failure to pay importers license or inspection fees on gas oil fuel used in Nebraska Diesel engines. State inspectors Hare and Austengarten said similar actions are planned in Thadron and Crallala after the importers tax and inspection fee became law last session. Venoco Oilers of Sidney finish second after a 14 to 2 defeat in the final to Maryland cafe of Alliance in a two day hitter ball tourney. Oilers had earlier fallen 8 to 2 to the Maryland team and defeated Western Public Service Fort Robinson Crawford Hemingford Scottsbluff Elks by wide margins. Local fans grumbled at Monday’s heavy schedule and uneven pairings, but Oilers blame fatigue and bad breaks while vowing better play next time.
A Sidney firm reduced its advertising allowance by half in 1930, saving $65,000. The funds enabled cutting half of the sales force in 1931 and trimming salaries, commissions, and travel costs. By 1932 payrolls were halved including office and factory staff, reducing expenses substantially, leading to a 1933 decision to sell to its leading competitor on favorable terms and reduce expenses to nearly nothing.
Virginia Johnson of Sidney was guest soloist at the weekly barn concert in Sterling last evening. Miss Z Johnson has been spending the week in Beerling as a guest of Miss Roma Tee Rex. They are classmates at the University of Colorado.

Jay Closman of Sidney country club reached the semi finals of the Oregon Trail tournament at Scottsbluff before losing 2 and 1 to Larry McArthur of Greeley. Closman had earlier defeated George Stevens of Scottsbluff in the quarterfinals, 2 up.
Mayor Schroeder told the Telegraph on Tuesday that Sidnes parkways cost only 3200 and not 7500 as reported earlier. The reference to a company was removed to avoid delaying paving wins.
James W. McDaniel Sr former sheriff of Cheyenne county and a widely known local pioneer arrived in Sidney this week from Indiana and will stay indefinitely. He has spent the time visiting old friends and reports good health.
Crowds filled downtown streets as legal beer returned at 12 01 am with Shiney celebrating. Local dealers reported heavy early business serving 16 to 32 gallon kegs and hundreds of gallons consumed before dawn. Older patrons praised the flavor matching pre prohibition days while younger tasters called it superior to prior home brews.
