Mentions Reverends Chandler and Leatdale, local merchants, weddings planned, and a proposed county convention delegation.
The 21st Infantry led by Captain F H E Ebstein will march from Belleview to Kearney for a one month encampment. Staff officers include Lieuts Wittich Bonestess and a cadre of captains and lieutenants. The march covers 215 miles with daily legs from Aug 12 to Aug 31 ending at Kearney. Deserter Joe Cook from Company G noted. several officers remain at Fort Sidney. Eighth Cavalry of about 700 reaches Fort Meade en route from the Mexican border.
A Friday evening coaching party, including Lieutenant and Mrs. Bonesteel and several young ladies, traveled to Springs with a hearty lunch and cheerful voices. Under Mr Adams the four in hand navigated rough roads without incident, recalling Black Hills era stage robberies near Sidney. The group also featured Misses Yates Clebourne Eubavk and Messrs Adams Monow Paine Wittioh Laing Callahan.
