Social Security Disability and Working Part Time Rules
Questions about how working part time affects disability and SSI benefits. If you can work and recover, benefits may stop or be limited during a nine month trial period with a three month adjustment period if substantial work is feasible. Rental income may affect SSI, not Social Security retirement or disability payments. Delaying retirement from 65 to 72 increases benefits by about 1 percent per year. Apply promptly for Medicare at 65 and locate the nearest office.
