Cheyenne County harvest wraps up with widespread hail and winter kill. County average now near 18 to 19 bushels per acre, with Dalton around 35 bu, Lorenzo ~20, and other areas lower. Wheat price around $2.02 per bushel. district totals near 4.5 million bushels.
District Governor Mainard Crosby of North Platte will visit the Sidney Rotary Club this Thursday. He will meet officers and committee heads at 4 30 pm at Hazel's Cafe party room then address the full club at 6 15 pm. The club switched its meeting night from Friday to Thursday to fit Crosby's itinerary. Crosby follows Leon Fine as Governor of Rotary District No 176 and is a North Platte attorney and father of Robert Crosby, former lieutenant governor and gubernatorial candidate.
The 1951 harvest in the southern Nebraska Panhandle proved highly successful for the Nebraska State Employment Service. Francis Hiner of the Sidney NSES office reported smooth operations with balanced demand for workers and machines, crediting a systematic harvest directing method and constant inter-state coordination to match labor supply with need.
Millard K. Neptune, president of The Platte Pipe Line, will be principal speaker during Sidney’s second annual National Oil Progress Week observance in October. The line from Worland Wyoming to Wood River Illinois aims to relieve a regional oil transport bottleneck and expand capacity with 16 and 20 inch pipe.
Four men were sent in the August induction call by the Cheyenne County Selective Service board. They were sent to Denver for assignment to camps for basic training. Names: Kenneth M. Agnew, Harold P. Craig Jr., Duane E. Kahl of Sidney and Herbert E. Rihn of Gurley.
Seventeen Cheyenne County women extension clubs prepare for the Cheyenne County Fair August 16 to 18. Mrs Ludwig Schroeder leads the exhibits with assistant Mrs Stewart Brown. Sally Hartz from Morrill County will judge entries. Open class entries allowed from county residents. booths may be decorated by extension ladies or groups. Booth arrangements due August 4, six of ten booths reserved. Judging emphasizes a centralized idea and craftsmanship. baked goods accepted by August 16 noon.
Subscriptions for the Sidney Community Hotel total 197700 with a Tuesday deadline to raise at least 60000 more. Neal Atkins' team led weekend sales with 7400. Division B had 1300 and Division C 2200 as two teams fall behind in daily reports. The executive committee posted 3500, bringing week total to 1400 and overall to 197700. Final dinner tonight aims to reach the 60000 goal and complete the drive. Sixty three sales added 790 subscribers to the project.
The Sidney Ideal Stone plant opens supplying pumice and concrete blocks. Managed by Alva Speer with Chris Handley and Leonard Handley of Chappell, the firm guarantees block quality matching any maker in dimensions absorption strength and appearance. The Chappell Hollestone Co. history backs the venture as a pioneer in the region.

A special election is set for August 21 for electors in nine Cheyenne County school districts to decide on reorganizing into district 9A. Districts 5 9 13 15 29 31 47 62 and 82 would merge with asset transfers and boundary changes to take effect August 27 if approved.
