County Levy Is Lowered in Cheyenne County for 1938
County commissioners tentatively cut the 1938 Cheyenne county tax levy from 4.8 mills to 4.68 mills, saving about six thousand dollars for county taxpayers. Towns and villages, however, seek higher levies for local government. Readouts show Sidney, Dalton, Gurley, Lodge Pole, Potter and others adjusting levies while the county valuation falls from 20,318,985 in 1937 to 19,594,040 this year.

Doran Buys Le Sueur Property in 11th Avenue Deal
Guy V. Doran announced the completion of a cash purchase of the Le Sueur building at 11th Avenue and Illinois Street from Mrs A R Le Sueur and guardian A R Le Sueur for Doris Le Sueur. The 75 by 110 foot site includes a 40 by 70 foot two story brick and concrete building and a 19 by 24 foot single story office. State General Fund Shows Slight Gain in July

City Council Approves 13.50 Mill Levy for Coming Year
The council set a 13.50 mill city tax levy for the next year an increase of half a mill over last year. Despite a 46 thousand dollar drop in city valuation the levy remains the same as last year due to the reduced value. A half mill park fund increase was ordered to cover park operating costs after storm damage. The 13.50 mills are allocated across funds including General Cemetery Sewer Library City Hall Amusement Park Street Lighting and Paving Districts 2 and 3 with various bond and interest allocations. The board renewed its street lighting contract with The Western Public Service Company but delayed the water pumping contract to pursue a retrac tive date saving the city money.

U P Employee Burned by Steam Hose Burst
James Loaris a machinist's helper at the Union Pacific roundhouse was badly scalded when a steam hose burst while he cleaned a switch engine. He suffered burns along his right side from the waist to the foot and a minor burn on his left leg. He was taken to Taylor hospital for treatment and listed in good condition, with several weeks of hospitalization expected.
