Stan Juelfs enters race for Nebraska governor job

Kimball resident Stan Juelfs, oil firm president and bank director, enters the 1978 Republican gubernatorial race as the third announced candidate joining former North Platte Mayor Robert Phares and ex Nebraska Wesleyan University president Vance Rogers. Juelfs, 48, vows a voters advisory task force and tax spending reform to restore government by the people and promises an active campaign. He and his wife Donna have three children.

Transmission project meetings to discuss new high voltage line

American National Bank to unveil remodeled HQ grand opening

The bank will display its remodeled headquarters at a grand opening on August 13. In Sidney, strong showings are anticipated as locals head to state basketball and football all star games this weekend.

UP to spend 23 million on Cheyenne CTC track upgrades

Union Pacific will invest about 23 million dollars over three years to install centralized traffic control on 210 miles of double main line between North Platte and Cheyenne, expand Cheyenne terminal tracks, and build North Platte dispatch facilities. The project boosts capacity by 80 percent and allows bidirectional operation on single-line segments, with Cheyenne serving as a key coal-rail hub. Completion targets include Cheyenne track work by late October and CTC east to Pine Bluffs by year end, with additional segments planned through 1979.

School budget passed in Sidney amid tax questions

The Sidney Board of Education approved a 1977-78 budget of 2,156,679 with a 14-spectator hearing. The levy could rise 15.6 or 22.2 mills depending on state aid from LB 33 or LB 448, while delay in tax receipts and reserve use were discussed by officials including Dr. L. S. Sioux Army Depot alumni plan three-day reunion in Sidney

Former Sioux Army Depot employees will gather in Sidney this weekend for their third triennial reunion. About 600 to 700 alumni, families, and friends from across the country are expected. Events include a pancake feed at the Elks Lodge, dances at the Elks, a Pow Wow finale picnic at Legion Park, and guided depot tours by Western Nebraska Technical College.

Vacation trip ends in camper wreck on I-80 near Sidney

A Nebraska vacation drive ended noon Tuesday when a 25 foot camper trailer blew a left tire causing a crash on I-80 east of Sidney. Six in the station wagon escaped with a scratched leg and a bumped head. Andrew Standards 34 said a strong jerk felled their camper as police directed traffic. The crew towed the mangled trailer while passengers gathered belongings and searched for a medicine bottle and a camera worth about 9000 dollars insured. No injuries were reported.
