Indian Troubles at Fort Robinson in 1874 Chronicle
In a Fort Robinson Museum series, the 1874 White River crisis is recounted with Lt. Emmet Crawford and Lt. Levi H. Robinson leading troops after the Feb 9 deaths of Frank Appleton and Corporal James Coleman. A May camp move and June arrival of Capt. W H Jordan build the post, while Kenssler's jail escape triggers a tense pursuit. October 23 siege and pole damage mark a chaotic fall, with Sitting Bull aiding a soldier escape. Crawford’s career and the town of Crawford tie to these events, closing with a note on U S Savings Bonds narrator James L. E. Drischel.
