Finley backs A's as they drop opener to White Sox

Finley watched the opener from Chicago and urged the A's via long distance as Richie Allen made a high school labeled debut. Allen homered with three RBIs in a 12–5 loss, while Oakland won the nightcap 11–4 to stay in a share of first in the AL West. Finley defended his patchwork lineup, predicting a division title and inviting Billy Carter to throw out the first ball at the World Series opener. He blamed former players for any harmony issues, asserting it was their fault, not his.
