Sidney grows toward city status as Cheyenne County Lumber Co. builds new lumber sheds and an implement house. The facilities will house overflow lumber from main yards and support a full line of farm implements and machinery.
Mro and Mrs. J. W. Shoemaker celebrate a telegram from their son Edward stating he will reach New York today. The message, sent aboard the Leviathan from Boston yesterday morning, was received at Sidney in the afternoon. Secretary Baker recently traveled aboard the Leviathan.
Providence Chapter 108 Order of the Eastern Star elected their officers for the coming year led by W. M. Mrs Olive Agnew and A. M. Mrs Dorothea Campbell. Conductress is Mrs Aliie Grant with Grace Sympdynes as assistant. Louise Garrison secretary and Julia Mann treasurer. Large attendance. installation set for June 11.
Friday morning an alarm from the Haskell residence sparked a rapid Fire Department response. Smoke filled the house but the fire was contained after a cloth used near the stove, nearly consumed, was found in a kitchen closet. Damages were minimal as local residents assisted and others visited nearby towns for business and purchases.
The Executive Board of the Red Cross will meet in the Court Room on Friday evening at 7:280. Dr Kimpston Dentist is listed with phone number 12.
The French Allied War Veterans arrived on No. 19 Saturday afternoon. A late parade drew a large crowd including the Ladies from War. The bagpipe band wore Scotch Highlander uniforms. A military band concert impressed, with veterans recounting battle experiences, Lew Price Welsh tenor, and Jack Carter delivering song and comedy in an unusual program.
Clayton Parks and Lexie Gilliam were married at SC Andrews Church on Tuesday. Parks, a Sidney High School graduate, met Gilliam in Denver while both were visiting. the couple is supported by families including Mrs Alva Hart of Dalton Mars and Parks’ father, an auto dentist in Los Angeles. The Telegraph extends congratulations and best wishes for a long marriage.
In Ster lig wedding held at A G Shepherds apartments Elder J J Langston officiated uniting Rob Beauchamp grain buyer Sterling and Ruth Alden former bookkeeper for a local firm. Guests from Sterling included sister Mrs C K Try ing Denver bridesmaids Mr Hal Day and Miss Catherine Dougherty with best man Ed Wegryn. After a seven oclock dinner at the Commercial Hotel the couple left for an extended trip east.
Wm P Wilson and Miss Trene Jane White of Dalton united in marriage by Judge Chambers on Tuesday morning. The couple plan to reside on the Mckert place west of Diadton. Weir and Hamilton announce a 15 percent discount on trunks as they close out their line at Osborn Battery Station.

Report states a patient in Denver underwent an appendicitis operation and is doing nicely at present and expects to be able to be seen. Chas. Troguitz sold 40 acres adjoining Callahan's Addition on the west to ALS, Hardy and Dr. Simon. twenty acres will be immediately plotted in town lots.
Charlies K. Millard of San Francisco and Mrs. A P L Noble of Struble with their sons, brother and sister of Mrs. Avle departed Wednesday to return to their homes after a visit.
Miss Florence Marshall who teaches near Dalton visited Saturday and Sunday with relatives at Julesburg and on her return spent Sunday night at the Lloyd Garrison home in Sidney.
A Rochester resident enters an indefinite stay at the Mayo Brothers Sanitarium for ongoing treatment after a period of illness. Local officials note the patient has been in care for some time and will remain for an undetermined duration.
Miss Mabel Perry received a telegram Wednesday stating her brother Clarence H Perry of the 16th Engineers Co C has arrived in New York and will proceed to Camp Funston for his discharge. Harry King and his wife and baby drove from the King ranch near Bridgeport for a two day visit with his mother Mrs Grace King. He reports crop prospects unusually good in that part of the country.
After returning from a show the McMullin youths found their car missing. Towns notified, Chapell officers located the car and driver near Chappell. Sheriff McDaniel absent, Marshal Bowman and Deputy Haff brought the suspect to Sidney. He claimed to be Vincent Christofer of Chicago, seventeen, pled guilty and faces possible years of training on property rights at a state institution.
The Tobin opera house showed Hearts of the World on Sunday and Monday drawing a large audience. The Gish sisters star in a human interest trench home romance, with pathos and comedy. The orchestra pleased, and war scenes use realistic frontline footage. A fine production worth the admission.
Canteen service at Sidney opened Wednesday morning serving 109 pints of coffee to troops passing through on the Union Pacific. The 1 1/2 McIntosh family returned from a three month trip in California feeling revived and benefited by the outing.
The Farmers Co operative Association has completed a new store near the elevator and moved in. The building and warehouse span over a hundred feet, storing a large stock including a full line of groceries, flour, feed, coal, and farm machinery. The store operates with local stockholders and will serve as a transportation and general distributing point for machinery in western parts of the state.
The Scottish Rite Masons in the Western section held a meeting Thursday night April 17 to celebrate Maundy Thursday and Sunday April 20 at 3 o clock Foster services. They were assisted by Brother Jas S Davis 38th degree from Omaha.
Leon Urbach of Alaska, who visited Sid ney with his sister Mrs At Kruse, marries Dorothy Minzesheimer in New York City on April 1. They plan to live in Alaska where Urbach operates a clothing business. Oberschelp of Denver visited this week about cropping his land. Dan Aldridge offers cement work in town or country. Mr. and Mrs. A. OR Kratz will depart for Omaha at week’s end to spend several days attending to business affairs and taking in the sights.

Mrs Lloyd Garrison hosted two tables of bridge Friday for Mrs John White who departs for Saheba Kansas and Mrs G C Gatzmeyer bound for West Point. A two course luncheon followed at five oclock.
J F Hanson of J F Hlanson & Co Trust and Loan Co has visited Sidney and Cheyenne County for weeks to handle farm loans and titles for clients. The firm acts as managing broker for estates and investments with holdings across South Dakota Missouri Kansas Canada and Nebraska including a model Weyerts section farm bought and developed in four years. Hanson has made Cheyenne County trips for over thirteen years.
The Catholic Ladies will host a bazaar at Tobin Opera House on May day with fancy work aprons and home made confections plus an afternoon and evening ice cream cake and candies. A May Ball dance follows. Albert Kruse pays the highest cash price for cream. Jacksons reports new stock of Per fection and VPuritain OL Stoves.
Mr Harshman of Sidney said he bought a New Hart Parr last July and, after using it a week, returned to the Anderson Hart Parr Tractor Company to purchase a second unit.
