Sidney Jaycees elect new officers led by Folkerts

The Sidney Junior Chamber of Commerce last night elected officers for the coming year. Bill Folkerts was named president with J D Peters as first vice president and G F Bush as second vice president. Also elected were Bob Hazlitt treasurer Jack Bruns secretary Stan Belieu state director Roger Robbins Ben Belden Conrad Ribera and Arlin Hartman as directors. Senators Inspect Sioux Depot as Trade School Site

State officials and four Legislature Education Committee members toured Sioux Army Depot to study facilities for a possible state supported trade school. Senator Fleming touted $10 million in property to be turned over if approved, with hearings underway and decisions expected soon. The trip included Lt. Gov Sorensen and Farm Director Finigan, and a defensive freeze on equipment remains in place until a decision is made.

Services Set for Martin Block at Holy Trinity

Martin Janssen Block 78 died at Memorial Hospital Sidney after five days confinement. Funeral service Saturday at 10 a.m. from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Henry Monnich presiding. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Survived by wife Blanche two daughters Evelyn Jurgens and Arlene Reetz son Rolland two brothers and two sisters seven grandchildren. Memorials designated by family.

History Assn Meeting Set For April 28 In Sidney

The Cheyenne County Historical Association will hold its annual meeting at the Ft. Sidney Motor Hotel on Wednesday night April 28 at 7 30. Dr. James E. Thayer will review frontier history, drawing on his research for a western history inspired musical play. The Sidney Colonels vocal group will perform, including some of Thayer's compositions. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Roy Macadam urges members and others interested in western history to attend.

Panhandle Weather Forecast Sees Mild Temperatures Ahead

Partly cloudy conditions this afternoon tonight and Thursday with lows around 30 to 40 and highs from 65 to 75. Five day outlook calls for temperatures 2 to 6 degrees above normal through Monday with frequent minor day to day changes. Highs in the 60s and lows near 49, occasional scattered light showers expected.

Over 1,000 head from Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska listed for Saturday at the Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion. Choice white face and Angus cattle drawn from top herds. A strong market was noted at last Saturday’s auction.

Demonstrations and displays run from 9 a.m. with plans for an annual show, all unfolding on schedule amid thousands inspecting millions of dollars in machinery.

Grass Fire Report: Sidney Fire Dept Responds to Three Blazes

Sidney volunteers fought three grass and weed fires this week with two fires Monday near KSID radio and Sky Manor, and a midday blaze on the Alex Benzel farm west of Sidney. No damage reported.

Banner County ranch land and Kimball home auctioned

The Evelyn M. Larson estate sale netted over $217000. The Banner County ranch of 2943 acres sold in seven tracts with top prices of $44 per acre for grassland and $125 for cropland, bought by five local ranchers Ralph Anderson Walter J. Peterson Paul Moss berg Leonard R. Larson and Wayne E. Pile. The Kimball residence sold for $13500 to Douglas and Joan Knapp. Asmus and Rychecky of Scottsbluff conducted the auction.
