Commanding Officer's Home Open For Public Inspection This Weekend

Clara Belle Christensen 82 dies in Dalton Hospital after years in confinement. Funeral is Saturday at 2 p m from Craigo Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Rev Harold Massie officiating, burial at Dalton cemetery. Survivors include four daughters, three sisters, one brother, 15 grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Memorials to Gurley Methodist Church.

Farm Fire Near Sunol Destroys Sheds and Hogs

A fast moving fire at Clyde Johnson farm six miles northwest of Sunol on Monday damaged multiple outbuildings and killed seven of 35 hogs. Lodgepole and Sidney fire crews fought flames from 11 a.m. with teams from two towns, using 6000 gallons of water. The blaze also scorched a family car and damaged a chicken house, barn, and hay. The cause remains undetermined though sun glare near trash may have started it.

Commanding Officer's Home Opens After Fort Sidney Restoration

The Cheyenne County Historical Association marks the official opening of the Commanding Officer's Home at Fort Sidney with weekend tours. Public hours are 2-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, plus a lamplight tour Sunday night from 7 p.m. Visitors will tour by kerosene lamplight under guided supervision to maintain flow through the historic residence.

Panhandle Rain Forecast With Slight Thunder Chance

The Panhandle region expects partly cloudy skies tonight with a chance of a few thunder showers. Thursday shows partly cloudy conditions with occasional showers and cooler temperatures. Low tonight in the mid 30s to mid 40s, high Thursday in the 50s to 60s. Rain chances: less than five percent this afternoon, 20 percent tonight, 60 percent Thursday. Five day outlook shows above normal temperatures with frequent changes and highs in the 60s, lows 30s to 40s, little measurable precipitation overall.

The Scottsbluff Weather Bureau will maintain a tornado warning system for the Nebraska Panhandle. Edgar L. Rural School Board Members Meet With Educational Service Unit 19

April 13 meeting in Gurley drew a strong turnout for Rural Boards of Education from Cheyenne Kimball and Deuel counties. Unit 19 administrator L E Lydiatt outlined three county special education testing and Title I summer reading programs. LaVern Ells discussed the history and goals of Nebraska Special Education with demonstrations and a Q A session.

February activity across Nebraska shows retail sales up 4.8 percent and general business activity up 2.5 percent from a year earlier. Seventeen of 21 reporting cities posted gains with South Sioux City leading at 11.4 percent. Declines occurred in Broken Bow Chadron Scottsbluff and Fairbury.

State PEO Convention Opens Here On Tuesday

An estimated 300 delegates from throughout the state are expected to attend the two day annual state convention of the PEO Sisterhood in Sidney Tuesday and Wednesday, April 25 and 26. Meetings will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church and will be climaxed by a banquet Wednesday evening in St Patrick's Youth Center. Host chapters for the convention are those from Alliance, Bayard, Bridgeport.

Public Invited To Industrial Meeting In Sidney Tonight

A public meeting of the Sidney Industrial Corporation, led by secretary John Elwell Jr., will be held tonight at 8 p.m. in the Fort Sidney Motor Hotel shelter room. The session aims to discuss investment in current and future Sidney area operations and to present the local economy outlook to all interested residents and Chamber members.

Specialist To Work In Summer Reading Program

At a regular meeting of Educational Service Unit 19 plans were made to secure a reading specialist for remedial reading classes this summer. Rural schools may arrange with town schools for any child needing screening. L. E. Lydiatt reported on the Chadron meeting of April 11 and noted a cooperative study for the Panhandle. A visit to Rapid City was planned for April 26. Lydiatt will attend a Lincoln meeting on April 27. Next unit meeting set for May 11 at 8 p.m.
