Judge H M Grimes of the district court denies the writ of mandamus against county assessors in the Oberfelder case. The ruling holds mandamus cannot compel performance before duty is due, noting assessors act on April 1 to June 1 and that anticipated omissions cannot justify the writ.

President Burts special traveled east over the Union Pacific Thursday morning. The Burlington pay car visited Sidney distributing monthly checks. John Barnhart, UP time keeper at North Platte, visited his parents in the city Sunday. Linemen wired the new telegraph office in the stone depot this week and operators will move soon. Frank Winkleman, recovering from an eight month accident, will resume as day yardmaster at this point on May 1, and will receive full pay from the day of the accident.
