Sidney school board taps third quarter ESA payment tabled

The Sidney Board tabled an 8500 payment to Educational Service Unit 14 pending a speech therapy program report at the next meeting. It OK’d a 3228 bid from M C Schaaf & Associates for land survey of district buildings. Also planned principal replacements, raised substitute pay, mileage rate, reelected staff, and set the 1975-76 calendar starting Aug 25 and ending May 27.

Iowa and Nebraska Seek Receivership for ABP

Iowa and Nebraska along with the Securities and Exchange Commission filed for American Beef Packers in receivership before Federal Bankruptcy Court Judge David Crawford. The plan proposes 20 percent payment to creditors now with the rest in three years, as ABP faces 112 million dollars in debts against 131 million in assets.

Clean Up Week Kicks Off in Sidney

Ranchers and environmentalists clash over Norden Dam plans

A Norfolk public meeting drew about 60 people as ranchers from Bassett and Newport opposed the Norden Dam and O Neill Irrigation Project. Proponents led by Richard Barber estimated over 140 million dollars in cost for a Niobrara River reservoir and canal to irrigate 77 000 acres.
