Great Plains Irrigation Project To Boost Arkansas Valley

A new irrigation plan aims to irrigate the Arkansas valley with power generated at a central railroad land site and distributed via electricity to wells five miles away. Contracts will be let in May with completion by spring 1907. Applications cover over 120000 acres, and enthusiasm runs high for the project. A private pumping plant of under 8000 dollars already waters over 1000 acres of wheat, its first harvest exceeding its cost. The Great Plains spans about 700000 square miles, a substantial portion of the nation.
