Home on tracks okay with railroader's wife
Shirley Nelson lives with the Union Pacific railroad crew working the southern Panhandle. Her home is a railroad car parked on a side track between Omaha and Los Angeles for short stints, part of a 50 car unit centered in Sidney. The Nelsons’ Inland Nebraska home is near Hastings, but the car stays on the rails mid April as the steel systems gang, led by Robert Swede Nelson, moves to Wyoming for summer work.

Sidney Board of Education adopted a salary schedule raising base pay to 8500 dollars, a 300 dollar increase for about 95 teachers. The plan includes 340 dollar increments, health and life insurance provisions, and sick leave payouts, costing 1,145,312 dollars with a levy rise of about 0.46 mills. Sidney High principal George Hinn resigns after long service
George Hinn, longtime Sidney High School principal and former band director, resigned after a 40 year tenure with the district.
