Heading the Ostrich Ends Boers Feud at Jansen's Nek

A crowd gathered near Jansen's Nek in Transvaal to witness the Heading the Ostrich contest between Red Dirk Uys of Wakkerstrom and Crooked Dirk Breydenbach of Komati for Rosie Van Wyk's hand. The ostrich ran a planned route while Red Dirk charged the wrong way, allowing Crooked Dirk to win as the bird crossed the diverted stream.
