Governor Alexander urges Idaho citizens to assemble patriotically on July 4, 1917 and to avoid sale of explosives and firearms. Mayors sheriffs and police asked to curb firearms and explosive materials to prevent danger during the celebration. Attested by Secretary W. T. Dougherty at Boise Capitol.
A. G Butterfield of Washington county wins a new trial after the state supreme court reverses a Seventh judicial district court ruling that found him guilty of grazing on range reserved for cattle. The high court says ranges used by cattlemen and sheepmen cannot be exclusive cattle ranges under section 6872 of the Revised Codes.
Christ Church Episcopal will hold services at 11 A.M. on the fifth Sunday after Easter with Sunday School at 10 A.M. This marks a time change for the Sunday School.
Arrangements set for Memorial day May 30 with united church services May 27 led by Rev. Martin of the Methodist church. Services will be held in the K. P. Hall as a patriotic observance urging attendance and active support from citizens and the committee in charge. By request of J. L. Fuller, Rev. W. J. Barger, John W. Saviers.
Lincoln County agent arrived in Shoshone April 2 to organize agricultural work in communities. Efforts focus on potato and livestock improvement with recent activity in Jerome. May 12 Dietrich visit planned with Horticultural field man and potato specialist from the State University extension department. Full attendance desired. meeting at three o'clock.
Rev Swartz will conduct an outdoor meeting near the square Sunday at 4 PM. Also Mother’s Day gathering Sunday at 11 AM at the Baptist church. Everyone invited, especially town mothers.
Secretary Lane said rumors of park closures are unfounded and all parks will open at the usual time. He noted that wartime travel may continue and that over 900,000 visited recently, with new hotels and transport planned across Yellowstone Yosemite Mount Rainier Glacier Glacier Point Paradise Inn and Paradise Valley. Road improvements and enhanced auto travel conditions are underway.
The Lincoln County National Bank subscribes twenty five thousand dollars to the U S war loan. This brings the total from Shoshone banks to fifty thousand dollars. Reports say money flows into Washington at about half a million dollars a minute and over a billion dollars has already been subscribed.
The Interior Department plans to distribute free automobile guide maps showing road systems of the larger parks and the state highways connecting them. New information circulars for prospective visitors will be issued soon to improve accessibility and awareness of the parks, which are not as well known as they should be.
Last Saturday two Jerome youths Hoffman and Walling armed with a rifle or pistol and masked, held up a girl then forced entry into an old miner’s cabin to steal a revolver. The prospector fired twice into the air, Walling fled, Hort disappeared, waterlogged cap found, Walling sent to reform school.
The Eastern Star of Shoshone held a memorable meeting at the E P hall Tuesday evening led by Mrs. Stella Van Riper of Bubl Grand Worthy Matron. Thirty or more members of the Gooding lodge attended. Refreshments were served and all enjoyed a good time.
Memorial day events set with churches invited to unite in memorial exercises on Sunday May 27 at 7 30 PM at Baugh Theatre Rev Marlin of the Methodist church to preach. A meeting at Judge Fuller’s office is called for Monday evening May 14 to refine plans and invite patriotic citizens to attend.
The first rural school track meet was held at Sunny Slope with Bunny Slope Darrah and West End. events included running broad jumping and chinups. In the afternoon Bunny Slope faced Darrah and West End in baseball, Lumpy Slope winning and taking the Idaho pennant for top overall points.
The couple Mr L W Greving and Miss Btancey Nisisom, both of Shoshone Idaho, wed on Thursday May 3 1917. Friends note the Grevings will remain in Shoshone and continue serving the public through the Gemmen Rule Store.
Bead horses including yearlings and two year olds branded with a circle on the jaw were stray and reported in the Hagerman valley. Notify authorities with any information to recover the animals and identify their keeper.
