Idaho Enlists Pupils in 1917 Preparedness Campaign

Governor Moses Alexander calls Idaho pupils aged twelve to nineteen to enlist in Increased Productive Service to boost food production for the war effort. State Education and Farm Markets coordinate with county and school leaders to set May eleventh as Preparedness Day and train teachers as recruiting officers across Idaho. The drive aims to mobilize every schoolhouse in the state to support national defense and wartime production.

Lincoln County Idaho Irrigation Guarding Session Minutes

April 1917 Lincoln County Idaho commissioners meet with Blaine Gooding Minidoka Twin Falls reps and irrigation company officials to discuss guarding irrigation systems. Motions allocate guard costs one third to companies and two thirds to counties, with sheriff reporting monthly on guards. Additional motions consider which points to guard and duties required.

County Officials Seek Guards to Protect Irrigation Works

Lincoln County commissioners join Blaine Gooding Minidoka and Lincoln counties in a resolution requesting the United States Government and the State of Idaho to send National Guards to guard irrigation projects and aid deputy sheriffs, with copies to the governor and members of Congress. The meeting adjourned with a recess to May 1, 1917.

Joint Meeting Sets Pace for City Farming Plan

A joint meeting of the Study Club Village Board and School Board discussed intensive farming on vacant city lots with students as key participants. Shoshone School Notes Highlight Baccalaureate and Senior Events

An Idaho Technics Institute rep visited Shoshone School last week. Rev Henry Parker of Nampa will deliver the Baccalaureate Address at the Baugh Opera House next Sunday evening at 7 o clock. Senior Clans Day is Wednesday at 7 30 and Senior Commencement next Thursday at 7 o'clock with ten graduates. The class chose the red rose bud as its flower. The Domestic Science class sent a box of goodies to soldiers. Some students visited country schools Wednesday. Eighth graders from town may join next year. volunteers to host them are Marshall Chapman and Earl Swope. Bills against the Junior Class should be given to Bessie Newman. Mr McGraw showcased a fine manual training exhibit last Thursday.

Eisenberg injured by fall, horse strike. Murphy trips to Carey and visitors from Gooding and Salt Lake. Jerome visitors include W B Firebaugh and C Parker. Studebaker bought by Mr and Mrs Burdeth. George Erickson returned from the east for summer with parents. Two trustees visited last Friday and playground apparatus planned for next week.

Army Y M C A Organizes in Shoshone

John Th. Rudd Idaho Oregon manager of the Army Y M C A visited Shoshone Tuesday to form a local chapter. A L McMahon was named temporary secretary and permanent chairman, with an executive committee including A L McMahon Bew Teacher F Borden Arthur Thainsen and L W Walker. The group moved to set up a permanent organization and begin immediate work benefiting Shoshone youth.

Miss Jennie Cook and Mr Roy Vaughan wed at Gooding Idaho on April 26. Mrs Vaughan is sister to county superintendent Stella Cook. The couple, soon to reside in Shoshone, Idaho, will be welcomed by the entire community.

Manual Training Exhibit Prompts Public Interest at High School

The high school manual training department showcased its work yesterday. The exhibit revealed fine furniture crafted mainly with a jackknife and buck saw, highlighting valuable student skills and urging the board to supply proper tools. The display aims to boost public awareness and support for better equipment.
